Hand-Carved "Eagle" Top Dovetailed Wooden Candle Box
c. 1800s Dovetailed Wooden Candle Box with a Large Hand-Carved American Federal Eagle Design on its sliding top, Choice Extremely Fine.
A Handmade Candle Box measuring 12" long x 5" wide x 3.75" tall, with an unusual decorative feature displaying a hand-carved American Federal Eagle on its sliding top. The tail feathers of the Eagle extend about 2" from the edge to form the sliding "handle" for opening and closing the box. The early American craftsmanship is excellent and quality built with all dovetail corners. No nails, tacks, or screws were used in constructing this box; all the pieces are held together by hand-cut dovetailing or small, wooden dowels. This early American box has no cracks, breaks or other damage. The lid has beveled edges and slides easily along a grooved track inside the box. About as nice and as when made as an example of decorative Americana.
