Description
DESCRIPTION: Oil on board painting "Presentacion de Rubens a Felipe IV" ("Presentation of Rubens to Philip IV") attributed to Francisco Javier Amerigo y Aparici (Spanish, 1842-1912). Painting depicts a figure, presumably the Dutch artist Peter Paul Rubens, being presented by another figure, possibly meant to be the Spanish artist Diego Velasquez, to King Felipe IV of Spain, with various clerics and courtiers also in attendance. Plaque on front reads "F. J. Amerigo Y Aparicio [sic] (Presentacion de Rubens a Felipe IV)". On verso, in ink: "Presentacion de Rubens a Felipe IV. Amerigo". Signed at lower right, with signature partially obscured by the frame. Frame features relief foliage motifs.
