DESCRIPTION: A Voyage Round the World, In the Years MDCCXL, I, II, III, IV. By George Anson, Esq., Commander in Chief of a Squadron of His Majesty's Ships, Sent Upon an Expedition to the South-Seas. Printed in London for John and Paul Knapton. 1748, 548 pages. Full leather hardcover. Anson (1697-1762) was an English captain who led a circumnavigation of the globe from 1740 to 1744, which, while successful, led to the loss of most of his ships and over 80% of his men. He was subsequently promoted to First Lord of the Admiralty in 1757, a position he held until his death. MEASUREMENTS: 8" high x 5-1/8" wide. CONDITION: Front board detached but included. Rubbing to leather on boards and spine. Marginalia and markings throughout, and most prominent at front and back. Text block remains complete and is bound with minor wear.
