Description
An iconic spiritual modern lithograph titled "The Sacrament of the Last Supper" by Salvador Dali. Hand signed in pencil on the bottom right with an annotation of 255/350 on the bottom left. The original painting was created in 1955 and is at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. It took Dali nine months to complete and remains one of his most popular compositions. The Sacrament of the Last Supper was completed during Dali's post-World War II period, which is characterized by his increased interest in science, optical illusion, and religion. During this time, he became a devout Roman Catholic and simultaneously was astonished by the "atomic age". Dali himself labelled this era in his work "Nuclear Mysticism". He sought to combine traditional Christian iconography with images of disintegration. From a private collection. Dimensions: 27.5"h x 35"w x 1"d (framed). In very good vintage condition. Salvador Dali (1904-1989) was a Spanish painter who was one of the most influential and celebrated artists of the 20th century. Known as one of the founders of the Surrealism movement, he became an artistic icon. His work today can be found in countless museums, galleries, and institutions across the world, and his impact on the modern art world will be remembered for generations to come.
