Large Chinese Carved and Gilt Model of Wood Guanyin. Carved from a single piece of elm wood using a Caozhou technique. It shows a Guanyin figure standing on a pedestal made of lotus and clouds. She is supported by a coiled dragon's tail and is accompanied by a capped man. They both appear to be emerging from ocean waves. The Guanyin's body is slightly leaning forward, and she holds a vase in her left hand. There is also a young attendant who is carrying a branch with peaches on it. The sculpture is decorated with gold and painted with red lacquer. {Height approximately 33 inches (83.8 cm)}. Condition: Overall wear, chips on dragon.
