Note: Photographs of Braque are hard to come by since the artist was a very private man and did not encourage photographers. Doisneau did, however take several photographs of him and he is usually shown, even when indoors, wearing a hat of some sort. Our work is not illustrated in the work “Doisneau Portraits of the artists”. However those which are illustrated show Braque wearing the same jacket, tie and cap and were almost certainly taken at the same session. Here the artist stands mixing paints on his pallet with several canvases behind him. Braque seldom seems to smile in bis portraits and shows something of a melancholy demeanor. This is a rare print and seldom comes up for sale. In the last 20 years I have found it only twice at auction.
