Description
Woman's Ceremonial Skirt "Tapis Kaca", Lampung, Indonesia, Early 20th C. Homespun cotton ground with gold-wrapped thread, sequins and mica, silk embroidery, Kauer people. Opened. Tapis are heavily ornamented ceremonial sarongs made and worn by women in the south Sumatran province of Lampung, Indonesia. They are made from cloth strips that are woven by hand from dyed cotton and silk threads, then sewn together into a tube, and finally decorated with gold, silk, mirrors, and other precious materials. Size: 49.5'' x 46.5'', 126 x 118 cm.
