Description
Two Lower Sepik masks, Possibly Keram or Ramu; Madang province (?), Papua new Guinea.The masks of classical flat-style, the first with a somewhat well-worked out face with long nose and smiling mouth, the surface encrusted, and the other more stylized with bulging eyes and elongated flat facial plane with rounded upper portion. While likely Mid-century, these masks are well-carved and show some traditional use and weathering. Acquired by Marc Seidler C. 1983. The largest mask measures 34 x 10 inches, the smaller mask measures 21 x 8.25 inches.
