South America, Argentina or Uruguay, Pampas region, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A matched pair of brass stirrups and a singular iron stirrup with an articulating foot plate. The matching brass stirrups are simple but sturdy and well made, with an elegant arched shape, with flattened rectangular foot plates. While gaucho cowboys often use oversized and elaborate stirrups, these petite pairs may have been used for sport riding, such as polo or pato. The iron stirrup has an unusual sole shaped plate riveted to the footplate bar that can swivel up and down which indicates it may have been used for a woman's side saddle style of riding.
