Description

EARLY TIFFANY & CO. CUSHMAN FAMILY PRESENTATION SILVER SALVER, round form with a Greek key rim, raised on three scrolled foliate feet, center of well with presentation engraving that reads, "The Church of the Annunciation / to / MISS EMILIE ARNOULT CUSHMAN / 1854". Base impressed with "TIFFANY & COMPY." retailer's mark for Tiffany & Co. of New York City, NY above a maker's mark for J.C. Moore, of unknown silver fineness, possibly coin silver. Total weight: 9.210 ozt. Together with a sterling silver child's mug by Gale & Willis of New York City, NY, cylindrical form featuring repousse, chased, and engraved floral decoration, which frames a personalized engraving of "William F. Wilcoxson / from / his Godfather", having an angular scrolled handle, maker's mark to base as well as "925 STERLING" and "1859" date mark, total weight of 4.205 ozt. Mid 19th century. Salver 7" D. 
Catalogue Note: Identified as Emilie Arnault Cushman, who was born on September 7, 1828 to parents Don Alonzo Cushman (1792-1875) and Matilda Charity Ritter (1798-1881) of New York City, NY. Her father was a successful dry goods merchant and a pioneer in the development in the Chelsea district. Emilie married George Wilcoxson (1830-1881) on October 6 1855, and they had eight children including William Floyd Wilcoxson (b. 1860), the owner of the Gale & Willis mug. The family moved to Nyack, Rockland Co., NY some time between 1870 and 1880. In 1897, Emilie left for a trip abroad with one of her daughters and died unexpectedly in Paris, France. She is buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in Nyack, NY along with her husband. 


Condition

Good to very good overall condition with wear, surface scratches, and nicks; salver with a moderate dent and a few minor dents to well, engraving with worn spots; mug with worn spots to decoration and engraving, scattered dents mostly minor/small in size, one rose with some small holes.
