LEHIGH / NORTHAMPTON CO., PENNSYLVANIA SCHOOLBOY FOLK ART FRAKTUR FIGURAL DRAWINGS, LOT OF TWO, watercolor and ink on paper, each featuring a full-figure side view of a gentleman wearing a large top hat and a dark tailcoat, holding a cane in his left hand, comprising one example lacking lower edge inscribed "Stephen / Shoemaker" on the verso, and one example on lightly lined paper inscribed "Benjamin Shoemaker" and probably later dated "1864 / the 1[0?] / September" to verso. Unframed. First half 19th century. One lacking lower edge 3 1/2" x 5" OA; other 3 1/4" x 6".
Catalogue Note: Identified as Stephen Schumaker (Shoemaker) (1827-1901) and Benjamin Schumaker (Shoemaker) (1833-1891), who were born in Lehigh/Northampton Co., PA to parents William Schumaker (Shoemaker) (1800-1878) and Cristina (Christina / Christeana) Leienberger (Lienberger) (1798-1865). Stephen married Fianna (Feyanna) Saeger (1833-1904) some time before 1860 and they had at least two children. Benjamin married Catherine (Blose?) (b. 1845) some time before 1865, and they had at least four children. Both brothers are buried at Saint Pauls United Church of Christ of Indianland in Walnutport, Northampton Co., PA.

Condition
Benjamin Shoemaker example in very good visual condition with light toning, some scattered stains and spotting, some small holes and a few tears along the edges; Stephen Shoemaker example in fair condition with light toning, some scattered stains and spotting, loss of lower edge, a few horizontal tears, area of small holes to top center and to proper right corner.
