Description
Large bore French or Belgian import percussion conversion musket in very solid, very good condition. It is marked 1861 and CSA in numerous places.. unfortunately, these markings are B-S and nonsense. They were added 50 to 70 years ago. It is possible the markings reflect what the then-owner knew of the guns actual history, or it could have been an attempt to add value by an unscrupulous gun trader. In either event the markings are present. 25 years ago dealer Fred Jolly turned up one of the finest examples of a Confederate Marshall cavalry saber in the original wood scabbard. He sold it to the late R.E. Neville aka Sonny Neville the legendary Confederate Arms & Artifacts dealer. That spectacular piece was spuriously marked -CSA 1861- on the blade. The previous owner innocently wanted to correctly identify the unmarked CS saber that he knew to be Confederate. The gun itself is super. Solid, good edges, overall VG condition. A classic example of the muskets issued to both North and South in 1861. 100% original, 100% complete, mechanically perfect except for replaced ramrod.
