Description
An Exceedingly Rare Confederate Artillery Short Sword by Boyle, Gamble, & McAFee, dated 1861. The grip appears to be entirely of brass, and is signed and dated on the guard. The unmarked blade has surface rust. Original black leather scabbard, unmarked, with brass fittings. Blade is 13 3/8" long, sword is 19" overall, scabbard is 14 1/2" long. In a remarkable state of preservation. The firm of Boyle (Edward), Gamble (Thomas) & McAFee (Edward) was located on 6th Street in Richmond, Virginia, just one block from the Richmond Armory. They made a wide range of edged weapons for the Confederacy.
