Acrylic and collage on canvas,1963. 915s620 mm; 36x24 inches. Signed in acrylic, lower right.Zerbe (1903-1972) was a German-born American painter and educator. He studied in Munich, at the Debschitz School, and in the late 1930s immigrated to The U.S. From 1937 until 1955, Zerbe was the head of the Department of Painting at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Together with the Boston artists Kahlil Gibran, Jack Levine and Hyman Bloom, he was a key member of the Boston Expressionist school of painting. Zerbe joined the faculty in the Department of Art and Art History at Florida State University in 1955, where he taught until his death.Provenance: Lee Nordness Galleries, New York, with the label; private collection, New York.
