Description
Cased Sextant by C. Plath of Hamburg, Germany. Engraved on sextant is "Col. Bion Welker, U.S. Army". Bion C. Welker (1894-1981) was a U.S. Lieutenant Colonel and was a veteran of World Wars I and II as well as a graduate of the General Staff School in Leavenworth, Kansas. He served as military governor from 1945-1946 in Bremen, Germany. After his military service he had been an editor of the Harrisburg Telegraph newspaper. Sextant is housed in box and exhibits some residue clouding of one mirror. Box measures 12.5" x 12.5" x 6.5". Box exhibits some abrasions and a crack.
