Description
Lot of two British posters: the first, 36 x 15 in., promotes 'Salute the Soldier Week', a British National Savings campaign with the goal of encouraging civilians to invest their money in national savings to support the war effort. These successful campaigns were held for the duration of the war and in a plethora of ways, including 'Warship Week' and 'Wings for Victory Week'. This particular advertisement is for the area Scunthrope and District with a fund-raising target of 600,000 pounds. Mild foxing. The second is a lithograph poster, 29.5 x 7.5 in., for the 'Make do and mend' exhibition held at the Imperial War Museum in London, printed by 'Haycock Press, London' for 'Her Majesty's Stationery Office'. ‘Make do and mend’ was a campaign of the British government to encourage people to repair and reuse their old clothing during World War II. The poster has been folded, else in fine condition; WITH war reporter, Hilde Marchant's illustrated book 'The Home Front', (England: Raphael Tuck & Sons Ltd.), circa 1940s. 30 pp. 11.25 in. x 8.25 in., aimed at the younger populace to convey the reality Britain faced during the war. Stains at the staples along the spine of the book, else very good. Three pieces, very good.
