c.1930 ORIGINAL ARTWORK & POEM by FRED SHARP RE: DEADLY ENGLISH AIRSHIP DISASTER
Circa 1930 Original Artwork and Verse by "Fred Sharp" Creating a Memoriam for the English Rigid Airship Disaster of the R-101. The overseas maiden voyage of the R-101 resulted in a crash at Beauvais, France on October 5, 1930 killing 48 of the 54 passengers. This was one of the deadliest airship disasters on record, with deaths (including that of Air Minister Lord Thompson) exceeding that of the Hindenburg. Composition includes gouache, crayon and ink on artist board with strong black memorial border. Artwork is mounted to a mat board and has an old newspaper backing.
Approximate exterior size is 15" x 18". Condition: light soiling, toning, edge wear. Please see photos for additional condition review.
