Description
Native American, Midwestern United States, Missouri, St. Louis County & Calloway County, early to late Archaic period, ca 8000 to 500 BCE. A fine collection of hand knapped chert spear heads of Etley and Graham Cave types. The 2 Etley blades are triangular, expanding points with elliptical cross-sections and barbed shoulders - the stem is short, and the base is straight. Both are made from a creamy white and warm tan Burlington chert from the Midwest- the shorter Etley might be heat treated, as the surface is more reflective and darker hued. Heat treatment is uncommon in Etley points and may be a result of unintentional burning from use. The Graham Cave blade has a tapering blade with basal notches to create shoulders and a stem that is concave with basal "ears." Size (long Etley blade): 8.9" L x 1.5" W (22.6 cm x 3.8 cm)
