on canvas, image area 12" X 16" plus gold frame, well listed Scottish artist, born 1874, Aberdeen-shire countryside....Biography from McTear'sGeorge Melvin Rennie was born in 1874. Rennie studied at Gray’s School of Art and Aberdeen School of Design. In the late 19th and early 20th century he became one of Scotland’s most popular landscape painters and was granted routine access to the Balmoral Estate.Over the next 25 years he painted many iconic views of the Scottish residence of the British Royal Family and its 50,000 acres of surrounding Aberdeen-shire countryside.Numerous landscapes by Rennie still remain in some of the properties on the Balmoral Estate but a great many crossed the Atlantic during the first half of the 20th century having been purchased by American visitors to Scotland.Rennie painted many of Scotland's great Salmon rivers often commissions from wealthy tourists who wanted paintings of their favourite beats or pools. The Spey around Craigellachie is one of the better known stretches for fishing and remains so today.George Melvin Rennie passed away in 1953.
