Young Matron
A young matron is here shown looking at the garden of her
house on the morning of New Year's Day. Her hair is done in
the regular Japanese style that shows she is married. From be-
tween the partly opened shoji (sliding doors) is seen a clear, re-
freshing morning with crimson berries of a "nandin" tree add-
ing a touch of quiet gaiety.
The printing is executed according to the typical Japanese
woodcut method. There is no new departure in the work, but
the whole composition and workmanship fulfils all the required
conditions of a woodcut print.
