Featured in this lot is this Navajo Klagetoh Trading Post rug c. 1920's. The rug features a wonderfully and professionally crafted wool construction that shows a central traditional Klagetoh medallion with geometric patterns throughout and shows a coloration of heathered dark brown, red set to a cream and heathered grey field. This is a large magnificent rug and is highly collectable. Klagetoh is located just south of Ganado and 10 miles north of Wide Ruins. The English translation is “hidden springs”. The Klagetoh weaving is very similar to the Ganado rugs, but with a predominantly gray background instead of the Ganado’s red. Some experts do not consider Klagetoh a specific regional rug but a sub-type of Ganado. The condition of this of this rug features is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this rug is 67" x 96". The thread count is 216 threads per count. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery.
