The lot feature a 19th Century brass tacked harness leather belt, sheath and hanging sash with inlaid trade knife from the Crow Indians of Montana. The set is considered to be for a young warrior due to its size, making it a truly scarce and interesting piece. This is made of thick, brown harness saddle leather and is adorned with an amazing collection of brass trade tacks and rivets in a banded design. The belt has a rare pattern of tacked “split belt drop” as documented in old photos of Crow Indians from the 19th Century. These types of tacked split belt drops are immensely rare and beautiful. The piece is paired with an original 19th Century trade knife with pewter inlays and brass tacks on both sides of the handle. The belt is in well kept, good condition, with the original buckskin tie straps still attached, some slight crackling of the leather, but overall very good condition. Minor wear, expected from its age. Provenance: From the Gary Henderson collection of Ohio. The tacked drop measures 33 inches in length, Belt is 24 ½ inches in length, Sheath is 9 ¾ inches in length, and Knife is 11 ½ inches in length.
