AN UNUSUAL LEAF-SHAPED IRISH PROVINCIAL SILVER SNUFFBOX
No maker's mark, probably Cork, circa 1780 Stamped STERLING
Of shallow form and with reeded sides, the hinged lid bright-cut engraved with a formal border, initials 'MOK' and the crest and motto of the O'Keefe family , height 1.3cm, length 9.5cm.
Footnotes:
The O'Keefes were a well-known Cork family and their motto is described as a griffin passant holding in the dexter claw a sword proper.
