Description
RAMÓN PICHOT SOLER (Figueras, Girona, 1924 - Barcelona, 1996).
"Female portrait.
Oil on panel.
Signed in the lower right corner.
Size: 49 x 40 cm; 64 x 55 cm (frame).
In this work Pichot approaches a classic theme in the history of art, the female portrait, from a costumbrist and intimate perspective, presenting the model in an interior, seated in a rocking chair next to a stretcher table, on which a vase stands out. The girl's expression is also very prominent, drawing the viewer's attention to her melancholy gaze and her abstracted gesture.
The son of Ricardo Pichot Soler, he began painting at the age of sixteen. From 1939 onwards he exhibited individually in Barcelona, and also in Madrid, Bilbao, San Sebastián and other Spanish cities. He also took part in the Barcelona Municipal Exhibitions of 1951 and 1953. Highly sought after in the United States, he held solo exhibitions in Palm Beach and New York in 1968, 1970 and 1973. He worked both portraits and the figure, especially the female figure, within academic canons and with a certain influence of Renoir. In 2007 an extensive exhibition of his work was held at the Girona Museum of Art, entitled "Fragments de vida" (Fragments of Life). Ramón Pichot Soler is currently represented at the MACBA.
