In the Post World War ll era, Howard Hughes as the owner of TWA was a dominant force in expanding and promoting the routes flown by his company. As the economy was vastly improving, airline travel for business and pleasure was on the upswing and posters such as this were instrumental in promoting this form of travel. This TWA to Greece poster was created by the gifted American artist David Klein (1918 -2005), and depicts a zoomed in view of the Parthenon. The crisp graphic style used in this poster is a clear example of Klein's style and clearly demonstrates why he was, and still is, a popular figure in the poster world. Note that this is the earlier version of this poster, with the detailed Constellation plane that would later be replaced by a jet. David Klein was best known for his influential work in advertising. The airline started a decline in the 1970s that ended up in a third bankruptcy that caused their acquisition by American Airlines in 2001.
