Item Details
Description
Artist: Donald Roller Wilson (b. 1938-) American Title: Santa Fe New Mexico… Medium: Oil on Canvas Type: Original Size: 28” x 35” Framed Size: 46” x 56” Signature: Signed and dated in white fence in the lower left corner Year: 2004 Condition: Good Gallery Certificate & Appraisal Description: Work consists of a large original painting of oil on canvas, installed in a frame with a permanent liner of oil on wood. Frame has been designed by the artist specifically for the painting and is constructed of a wooden armature which has been embellished with naturally shed deer antlers. The phrasing on the liner and border around the canvas states “Mrs. Rogers had kicked ass with two Baptist women who had irritated her in the Walmart parking lot. They were waiting on Mrs. Rogers to back out of her spot, complaining loudly they had heard her screw up as Mozart’s Donna Anna the night before, that she was obviously way too loud and way too fat for the part.” Brief Artist Biography: Donald Roller Wilson is an American artist, known for his paintings of people and anthropomorphized chimpanzees, orangutans, cats, and dogs, set in southern gothic interiors, twilight forests, and nocturnal graveyards, often amidst complex still life or floral arrangements, with levitating pickles, olives, asparagus, wooden matches, and cigarette butts. His images are often comical and at times disquieting. His paintings are executed using techniques and a style reminiscent of the old masters, or what the artist himself has called "kind of Victorian". He gained national recognition in the mid 1970s and his work is included in the collections of several museums throughout the United States. © 2023 Art Leaders Gallery | All Rights Reserved
