Mick Rock (British, 1944-2021): David Bowie 1972/1973, A Rare Archival Box Set Of Twenty-One Photographs,June 2016,the complete set of 21 prints signed in black pen by the photographer and numbered 5/9 HC, printed on Canson Platine Fibre Rag paper, the prints encased in an archival box within a flight case, each photograph portraying an image of David Bowie, the majority portrait images, some as his Ziggy Stardust persona on or backstage, or with other musicians including Mick Jagger, Iggy Pop and Lou Reed, accompanied by a letter signed by Mick Rock, each 16in x 20 in (41cm x 51cm)Footnotes:This exclusive limited edition box sets was produced by Mick Rock following the untimely passing of David Bowie. Originally planned as a small edition of 9, only 6 were produced before Mick passed away. The personal signed letter from Mick to each buyer of the 6 sets, includes details of the working relationship between the photographer and Bowie. Mick writes; 'This was a seminal time in both my life and David's. It made him a superstar and it provided the reputation for me to have a significant career. He was an inspiration to both observe and communicate with. What an amazing artist he was and remains in the beautiful and innovative works he has left behind...He left an indelible mark on my imagination, my psyche and my heart'.These 21 photographs from Rock's huge body of work with Bowie were carefully selected in order to compile this distinctive collection. His thoughts around the edition 'I decided that releasing 21 prints in an edition of just nine..., would be an exciting departure. It also legitimately added a small number to my David Bowie editions, many of which are now mostly sold out'.Mick Rock sadly passed away in 2021 leaving behind a legacy of imagery of some of the biggest names in the music industry from the 1970s onwards.
