John F. Kennedy signed copy of "Profiles In Courage." New York: Harper & Brothers, 1961. Inaugural Edition, Octavo, xxiii, 266, [10]pp. Signed and inscribed on the front free end page, "For Frankie Childers with very warm regards - John Kennedy." Deckled page edges. Quarter cloth bound boards. With the original dustjacket decorated in red, white, blue, and gold. Toned internal pages with sound binding. Boldly signed by Kennedy. Wear, soiling, and chipping to the dustjacket.
Frances "Frankie" L. Childers (1931-2003) began her career on Capitol Hill in 1958 when took positions as a speechwriter and legislative liaison specialist. She went on to become a Senate subcommittee staff director and was the first woman to run an investigating committee and the first non-lawyer to lead a judiciary committee. In 1961, upon moving to New York City, She was appointed by President John F. Kennedy as his public affairs advisor under Ambassador Adlai Stevenson at the United States Mission to the United Nations.
