Description
EARLY BLACK DUCK by Charles Birch, Willis Wharf, VA, (1867-1956). Old working paint and good structural condition. Some paint flaking to lower neck. Some minor dents and paint rubs. Pegged hollow construction. Scratch feather paint to body and paint ticking detail to head. Ice groove carving to back. Retains tack eyes, pad weight and leather rigging. Retains Charles Hunter Collection brass tag and Richard W. Oliver sale tag. For additional information, see "Southern Decoys of Virginia and the Carolinas" by Henry Fleckenstein, Jr., pages 137-139.
