Description
Massimo Campigli (1895-1971) Began His Career as a Journalist, Writing for Futurist and Avant-Garde Magazines in Italy in the 1910's. After Being Taken as a Prisoner of War During World War I, Campigli Served as a Foreign Correspondent in Paris in 1919 Before Joining the "Paris Italians" Artist Group, Which Also Included the Futurist Gino Severini and the Pittura Metafisica Painter Giorgio de Chirico. He Began Painting in the Manner of Fernand Leger and Pablo Picasso, but Campigli Began Depicting Almond-Eyed, Frozen Figures in 1928 when a Trip to Rome's Villa Giulia Left the Artist Fascinated with Etruscan Art - the Art Produced in Italy Between the 9th and 2nd Centuries BCE - That Came to Define His Distinctive Syle. His Most Iconic Works - Pale, Fresco-Like Paintings of Women - Mirrored a Broader European Revival of Ancient Art as a Response to the Horrers of World War I. This Color Lithograph is Entitled "Donne Fiori", and was Produced in 1957. The Fascinating Confluence of Campigli's Primary Influences - Etruscan Ceramics, Futurish and the Geometric Modernist Style Exemplified by Picasso's Post War Work - Are Clear to See and Merge Beautifully in DONNE FIORI. In 1948 Campigli had a Solo Exhibition at the Venice Biennial and was Honored with a Retrospective in 1967 at the Palazzo Reale in Milan. His Works are Presented Internationally at the Hermitage Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum. Donne Fiori is Signed, Dated and Numbered in Pencil, Lower Margin. PUblished by L'CEuvre Gravee, Paris, with the Blind Stamp Lower Left. A Very Good Impression, Melon/Tavola 164.
