Mixed media on paper showing two gentlemen in top hats conferring on the street of a French village. Signed lower right. De Belay was born in Qimper, but moved to Paris in 1925 and stayed for the rest of his life. Part of the iconic Montparnasse artistic and literary scene in Paris between the World Wars that included Chagal, Picasso, and Modigliani, de Belay took for his inspiration scenes of Paris life. His work can be found in important public and private collections worldwide including museums in Avignon, Bordeaux, Brest, Brussels, Concarneau, Morlaix, Nantes, Orléans, Paris, Quimper, Rennes, Rouen, San Francisco, and Strasbourg.
