Ca. 100-300 AD. A marble fragment from a sarcophagus depicting a bust of a goddess figure, robed in fine garments. The depiction of the goddess is well detailed, with the folds of her garment carefully carved to create a realistic effect. The goddess is turned to her right, holding an unidentified object in her left hand, which adds to the sense of dynamism in the piece. Her hair is carefully arranged, with delicate curls and waves. The face of the goddess is well detailed, with fine lines and features that convey a sense of beauty and grace. Roman marble sarcophagi were often decorated with such intricate and detailed carvings, which were intended to convey the status and sophistication of the individual for whom the sarcophagus was created.
