Painted Slat-back Armchair,
Bergen County, New Jersey, mid-18th century.
Turned stiles with urn finials tenoned to four horizontal arched slats, the arms with scrolled handholds supported by turned continuous frontal stiles, joined by two sets of sausage-turned front rails and plain turned stretchers, 19th-century black paint with yellow pinstriping over earlier red surface, 60cm wide, 55cm deep, 114cm high (24in wide, 22in deep, 45in high).
