Baluch Balisht, Northeast Persia / Northwest Afghanistan. A rare but not unknown design seen in used as a field design in both prayer rugs as well as balisht. The provenance is uncertain though it may very well have been woven in the border areas, given the absence of classic shades of red common to most Khorassan examples. The plum red shades may be an attribute of weavings from Afghanistan but the design and orderly manner in which it has been put together seems to reflect a Khorassan approach. The motifs arranged in two columns may represent a highly evolved type, drawn with the practiced and precise hand of an accomplished weaver15" x 35" (38cm x 88cm) Asymmetric knot open left, 10h x10v = 100 kpsi.
