Description
Late 19th century, 138 x 87 cm, North East Persia, Khorasan
This Baluch prayer rug of the head and shoulders type originates from the Sarakhs region. A geometric, stylised tree of life is symmetrically arranged in mirror image along the central axis of the camel field; its branches, alternately short and long, bear flowers at their ends. The fact that the two compartments next to the square arch are knotted in a darker shade of brown than the field is an unusual feature. – Slight signs of age and wear, low spots in the pile, the original selvedges and remains of the kilim finishes survive.
