G.H. ROTHE (German 1935-2008). Trio, 1982, Color Mezzotint, 16" x 10-3/4" sight size (framed size: 26" x 20-1/2") numbered lower left: 5/200, titled bottom center: "Trio" and signed in pencil lower right: G.H. Rothe. We found a comparison at $2,350. Colors in the comparison are not true because my printer doesn't print the colors correctly. See photograph 6 as comparison only - colors not true in that photo. We found others online in the $3000 to $4000 range.
Gatja Helgart Rothe was born in 1935 in Beuthen, Germany. Her studies in art history, human anatomy, goldsmithing and boundless drawings resulted in her discovery of the mezzotint technique. Determined to bring back to life this difficult technique of printmaking led to a breakthrough in 1972 which was transparency. Her years of study and tireless practice supplied the perfect medium for her broad array of images. She completed over 70,000 mezzotints in her lifetime. She was recognized as a master of the mezzotint and as one of the world's most extraordinary artists. She intertwined her technical skills with her high-reaching imagination.
