DESCRIPTION: Up for auction is a rare original book illustration by Russian artist Mikhail Idelevich Ivenitsky and used in the Franklin Library's publication of Iris Murdoch's novel The Book and the Brotherhood published in 1988. This illustration is featured on page 475 for Part Three: Spring section of the book. This sale includes a signed, limited copy of Murdoch's novel and the original ink drawing by Ivenitsky specially commissioned for this publication.
CONDITION: The book is in near-fine condition with minor wear to the board edges, see photos. The spine and boards are tight and straight. No interior markings except Murdoch's signature. No previous owner bookplate. The page-edge gilt is in near-fine condition with a small amount of wear to the top page-edge gilt, see photos. The ink illustration is in fine condition with no apparent issues, see photos. There is minor toning at the edges of the paper but this does not affect the illustration, see photos. The illustration is initialed by Ivenitsky in the lower right corner of the piece.
