Description

Pair of Rococo angels, 18th century.
Carved and polychromed wood.
They present faults in the polychromy.
Measurements: 31 x 16 x 20 cm (x2).
Pair of polychrome wood carvings representing two young angels. They are juvenile figures with infantile and chubby anatomies, typically classical and of Italian influence. The angels are completely naked, wearing only their wings. Despite the similarity in the modelling of the anatomies, each angel has a distinct identity. The two pieces differ from each other in their posture, in which one places both hands on his chest, while the other extends his arms outwards. The difference and individuality of each of the figures can also be seen in their faces. The pieces are worked in detail on both the front and the back, although it is likely that both sculptures were part of a larger sculptural ensemble.
