Description
Federal Mahogany and Satinwood Secretary Bookcase Cabinet
Attributed to Thomas Seymour, the decorative églomisé painting possibly the work of John Ritto Penniman, Boston, circa 1807-12
The crest with urn finials above a pair of glazed and églomisé decorated doors opening to adjustable shelves, over five small drawers, fold-out writing surface and three long banded drawers flanked by reeded stiles above turned rondels and scrolled brackets, raised on turned legs.
Height 6 feet 5 inches, width 38 3/4 inches, depth 21 3/4 inches.

Condition
Eastern white pine and chestnut secondary woods; brasses replaced; retouch to the eglomise panels; cracks and minor repairs to veneer; veneer patch to front left corner of writing surface; backboards with added strip along one edge; upper section backboards are renailed; some minor warping to lower section case sides; edgewear; old marks and scratches; old refinish in some areas. A photo of the piece found in a drawer indicates that this piece may have been sold at Parke-Bernet in 1977.
