A fine antique Mopamba short sword characterized by the wide blade with â€œEars” at the blade forte. The handle covered with animal hide or fur filled with herb and other medical substances to protect the sword bearer. Classical blade shape lightly engraved with a wooden handle showing a deep well handled surface patina. The sword measures 24 inches. Poto or Ngombe peoples, DRC/ Congo, central Africa. Provenance: Ex Charles Fox collection, California, Ex Zollman Collection, Indiana, since 1988.

Condition

Good, very well worn, dry animal hide.
