Description
This is a rare shaped vase and was produced with two parts. It was cut in the Lorraine pattern by Hawkes. The large 3/4" thick foot is a separate piece that attaches and is fully pattern cut on the base. The top vase has a tazza shape with a large round ball at the base. The bottom of the vase has the male fitting. The female silverplate fitting slides up through the bottom of the base and threads into the upper vase fitting. See photos of how these are attached together. This style vase was designed by the Hawkes Company and was only produced in a limited amount. One by Hawkes (in a different pattern) is pictured on page 188 in the book "The American Cut Glass Industry T.G. Hawkes and his Competitors" by Jane Spillman. Our sales record shows one of these was sold a few years back for $24,000.00. Circa 1900
