Description
George Platt Lynes (1907-1955) was an American fashion and fine art photographer. He is best known for his photographs of male nudes and his contributions to fashion photography during the 1930s and 1940s. Lynes began his career as a commercial photographer, working for Vogue and other fashion magazines. He soon developed a reputation for his avant-garde and innovative style, and his work was highly influential in shaping the modern fashion photography genre. In addition to his fashion photography, Lynes is also known for his artistic portraits of male nudes, which were considered groundbreaking at the time for their frank and sensual depictions of the male form. Lynes often worked with dancers and other performers, capturing their bodies in motion and creating images that were both beautiful and highly expressive. Lynes' career was cut short by his untimely death from lung cancer in 1955, but his legacy lives on through his influential contributions to the fields of fashion and fine art photography.
