George Barbier (1882-1932) was a French illustrator, designer, and fashion artist known for his elegant and sophisticated Art Deco style. He was born in Nantes, France, and studied at the Académie Julian in Paris.
Barbier's illustrations were featured in many high-end fashion and lifestyle magazines in the 1910s and 1920s, including Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and La Gazette du Bon Ton. His work often depicted stylish and glamorous women in luxurious settings, and he was known for his use of bold colors, intricate patterns, and decorative details.
In addition to his illustrations, Barbier also worked as a costume and set designer for the theater and ballet. He collaborated with the composer Erik Satie on several productions, including the ballet "Parade," which premiered in Paris in 1917.
Today, Barbier is considered one of the most important Art Deco artists and designers, and his work continues to be celebrated for its beauty, elegance, and innovation.
