Wayne Thiebaud (born November 15, 1920) is an American painter known for his colorful and realistic still lifes, landscapes, and figure paintings. He was born in Arizona, but grew up in California where he began his career as a commercial artist and cartoonist.
Thiebaud's paintings are characterized by their vibrant colors, precise lines, and heavy use of shadow and light to create a three-dimensional effect. He is particularly well known for his paintings of cakes, pies, and other desserts, as well as his depictions of everyday objects such as lipsticks, pencils, and toys.
Thiebaud's work has been exhibited widely in museums and galleries across the United States and internationally. He has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the National Medal of Arts in 1994. Today, he is considered one of the most important American painters of the 20th century.
