Richard Anuszkiewicz was an American artist known for his contributions to the Op Art movement, which emerged in the 1960s and focused on the use of optical illusions in art. He was born in 1930 in Erie, Pennsylvania, and passed away in 2020.
Anuszkiewicz studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art and later received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Yale School of Art and Architecture. He became associated with the Op Art movement in the early 1960s, and his works often featured geometric shapes, vivid colors, and optical illusions that created a sense of movement or three-dimensionality.
Anuszkiewicz's art has been exhibited in major museums and galleries around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Guggenheim Museum, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. He received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including a National Medal of Arts in 2000.
