Alfred Eisenstaedt (1898-1995) was a German-American photographer and photojournalist. He is best known for his work as a staff photographer for LIFE magazine, where he produced some of the most iconic images of the 20th century.
Eisenstaedt was born in Dirschau, West Prussia (now Tczew, Poland) and grew up in Berlin, where he developed an early interest in photography. In 1929, he emigrated to the United States and began working as a freelance photographer for various publications, including LIFE magazine, which he joined as a staff photographer in 1936.
During his long career, Eisenstaedt photographed many of the most important events and people of his time, including the rise of Nazi Germany, the Second World War, and the civil rights movement. He was also known for his portraits of celebrities, politicians, and cultural figures, including Marilyn Monroe, Winston Churchill, and Albert Einstein.
Eisenstaedt's photographs were noted for their clarity, composition, and emotional impact. He was a master of capturing candid moments and conveying the human experience through his images. Today, his work is considered some of the most important and influential in the history of photography.
