Mario Carletti was an Italian painter and sculptor who was born in Florence in 1912. He began his artistic training at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, where he studied under some of the most prominent Italian artists of the time. During the 1930s, Carletti exhibited his work throughout Italy and began to gain recognition as an emerging artist. His early works were heavily influenced by the Tuscan landscape and Renaissance art, but he soon began to incorporate elements of abstraction and cubism into his paintings. In 1938, Carletti moved to Rome and joined the Scuola Romana, a group of artists who were pushing the boundaries of Italian art at the time. It was during this period that he began to experiment with sculpture, creating a number of works in bronze and marble. After World War II, Carletti became associated with the Arte Informale movement, which was characterized by a rejection of traditional forms and a focus on spontaneous expression. He continued to experiment with both painting and sculpture throughout the 1950s and 1960s, producing works that were both abstract and expressive. Carletti's work was exhibited throughout Italy and Europe, and he received a number of awards and honors for his contributions to Italian art. His paintings and sculptures are held in the collections of many prominent museums and galleries, including the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna in Rome and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice. Carletti died in 1977 at the age of 65, but his legacy as one of Italy's most important post-war artists lives on. His work continues to inspire and influence artists around the world, and he is remembered as a pioneer of the Italian avant-garde.
