Item Details
Description
1980 MGB Roadster. When Beverly, the original owner of this 33,161 mile jewel, first purchased the MGB in 1980 she was fulfilling a long time dream to own an MG, which spent its entire life in her pampered care before she decided it was time to get it into the hands of another owner. The bright orange MGB was spotted around its longtime home in Waterloo, Iowa, as Beverly commuted back and forth to work, but she also took it on some long distance adventures providing some truly great memories for this long time MG enthusiast. The car has spent several years in storage, but the body sheet metal is in great condition, there is no rust damage of any kind (rust proofing was applied at the selling dealership) and mechanically no major issues have been experienced except some repair of the car's electrical fans used for cooling the four-cylinder BMC B-series engine backed by the smooth shifting four-speed transmission. The decision to discontinue the MGB, according to British Leyland (BL) history, came about largely due to the poor sales performance of the Triumph TR7, which had largely taken over as BL's contemporary offering in the small sports car market. BL management felt that continued production of the MGB was impacting TR7 sales and therefore was a justification for taking the MGB off the market. However, the TR7 failed to sell and was terminated just a year later.Everything on the car is factory correct including the folding convertible top and the car comes with a factory option black hardtop, an unusual option. The rare hardtop was in storage and now will be available to the successful buyer. The car is ready to be driven and enjoyed, and it is certain to draw attention and comment wherever it travels in the future. And Beverly will be happy when her cherished MG has found its new pampered home. VIN #GU237992704P.
