Description
EDWARDIAN ENGLISH STERLING SILVER-TRIMMED AND TORTOISE SHELL LETTER BOX, semi-circular form with red leather covering, front with tortoise shell and lock, bordered by sterling silver gadroon and bead trim, hinged lid conceals a divided interior with red silk lining, key not included. Sterling trim impressed with "HA" maker's mark for Atkin Brothers and three hallmarks of a lion passant for sterling fineness, a leopard's head city mark for London, and an "f" date mark for 1901. Circa 1901. 7 3/4" HOA, base 12 1/4" x 5 1/2" OA.
Condition
Good overall condition with expected wear, leather with some cracks and small losses, silver with spots of slight bending, lacking four securing pins and some pins replaced, lid with sizable crack, interior lining with some spotting/stains, locking mechanism in unknown working condition.
