AFTER JULIUS ADAM II (GERMAN, 1852-1913) CAT PAINTING, oil reverse painted on glass, depicting four gray tabby kittens staring at the viewer. No signature located. Framed under glass with velvet liner. Early 20th century. 5 1/2" x 7 1/2" sight, 15" x 17" OA.

Catalogue Note: This well-executed painting is based on the print Four Little Scamps, which in turn is based on the painting by Julius Adam II, a prolific German painter of feline subjects. The painting was widely reproduced as popular prints and post cards from the early 20th century into the 1920s. One of the first prints to be published was as a supplement to the Buffalo Express newspaper, January 18, 1903.

Excellent condition, minor wear to frame.
